The town of Pula is one of the most important tourist resorts in the south of Sardinia and its current population stands at 6.535 inhabitants although in the summer season this rises to over 50.000. Pula is situated at about 30 kilometres from the regional capital along the south-east coast of the Sulcis-Iglesiente area, the so-called “Costa del Sud”, and the town centre is just a couple of kilometres from the beach at Nora.
This is where you can find the archaeological remains of Nora, the ancient Punic, and then, Roman city that was abandoned in about 1000 A.D. because of the continuous attacks from Saracen pirates.
Pula has enjoyed an incredible tourist boom over recent decades: as well as an extraordinary cultural heritage, the town is able to offer a coastline featuring beautiful beaches with fine white sand and clear waters. In Santa Margherita, in particular, there are a number of luxury hotels and the small district of Is Molas has an internationally famous golf-course. In conclusion, during the summer period a top-quality season of music and theatre, called “Notte dei Poeti” (Poets’ Night) is held in the original theatre at the archaeological site in Nora.
